To Be Someone’s Home

What an honor it is to be someone's home; someone's peace. For them to be overwhelmed

with warmth and love upon seeing you in the kitchen while singing along
to your favourite tune. What a joy it is to know that making you smile fills someone's soul.
To see and to be seen; their heart skipping a beat when you prepare coffee just the way
they take it, without even asking. It is almost a privilege, one each of us craves, to find the
person we are enough for exactly as we are.

To have a person who rushes home just to spend their nights watching you fall into one of
your silly little hobbies, like clumsily strumming the guitar or messing up yet another photo
album with glue.
To be the reason someone buys treats with raisins even though they hate them, turns up a
song they don't really like or makes a florist’s day while describing your flower likes
and dislikes in detail.

To know your laughter does something to them – especially when they’re the one who sparks
it. To kindle the urge to pull you closer mid-asleep, as their subconscious won’t risk separation.
What an inexhaustible source of happiness it must be to be the cause of someone's face
lighting up, whether it's from your presence or from a simple mention of your name. To
become the one their friends tease them about – but for the first time ever, playfully instead
of mockingly.

To be the hug they long for, the company they desire, the shelter they seek.
To be someone’s home is to be the image they see and the calm they feel when they close
their eyes for a breath of ease.
A calm with a name now.
